Has anyone else noticed that vamp!Bella keeps her mouth closed and human!Bella usually has her mouth open in promo shots? Is this intentional?
Positive feels :D
Note: these are book related feels only!
People often claim that Twilight is a bad series. But is it even possible for a book to be objectively bad? Objectively unsatisfactory? D: We can have objectively good or bad literature, but literary merit isn’t what everyone values in a book. Different people enjoy different things, so I don’t think we can really say that there are specific elements which when present equate to a good book, and when absent equate to a bad book. It’s all too subjective D; So while anyone could say that they didn’t like Twilight, or that they thought it was bad, I don’t think it’s really accurate for anyone to claim that it just is bad, as though there’s some established objective standard.
Twilight is also frequently criticised for having negative messages. I’m not going to start addressing what these are here, I’m just going to explain what I took away from the series, as a teenaged female fan :D I don’t think it’s a particularly didactic series, but there are a few things about it that I find profoundly inspirational :D
1. This one is nicely summed up by a conversation between Bella and Edward on page 268 of Twilight:
“Why do you [resist your overpowering temptation to drink human blood]?” I said. “I still don’t understand how you can work so hard to resist what you … are. Please don’t misunderstand, of course I’m glad that you do. I just don’t see why you would bother in the first place.”
He hesitated before answering. “That’s a good question, and you are not the first one to ask it. The others – the majority of our kind who are quite content with our lot – they, too, wonder at how we live. But you see, just because we’ve been … dealt a certain hand … it doesn’t mean that we can’t choose to rise above – to conquer the boundaries of a destiny that none of us wanted. To try to retain whatever essential humanity we can.”
2. The characters :D For example Carlisle. I admire his compassion, pacifism, and dedication to medicine :) And Alice Cullen is my spirit animal. I legit changed my name to Alice in her honour.
3. “Jasper was the first one I saw - he didn’t seem to see me at all. His eyes were only for Alice. She went quickly to his side; they didn’t embrace like other couples meeting there. They only stared into each others faces, yet, somehow, the moment was so private that I still felt the need to look away.”
NOW, I DON’T KNOW WHETHER IT’S ACTUALLY POSSIBLE FOR PEOPLE TO LOVE EACH OTHER LIKE THAT AFTER GOD KNOWS HOW MANY YEARS, BUT ON THE OFF CHANCE THAT IT IS, I’M WAITING FOR THAT. FEEEELLLLLSSSSS. Love isn’t a race, and Twilight motivates me to wait to get into a relationship until I meet someone I love like the Twilight women love their partners, not just for the sake of having a boyfriend :D
I can’t imagine that Twilight has hurt too many readers. I’m sure there are plenty of people who were already hopeless and came away from Twilight just as hopeless, but the series can hardly be blamed for that ^_^ I doubt it’s really made many of it’s readers worse off as people for having read it. For example, I hate children and am pro-choice, so I’ve always thought (although it’s really impossible to say without having been in the situation) that if I were to become pregnant, I would have an abortion. I didn’t read Breaking Dawn and think “well, Bella didn’t have an abortion! Look how happy she is with her baby! If I get pregnant, I’m keeping it. NO FORGET THAT, I’M GOING TO GET PREGNANT RIGHT NOW”, I just didn’t like it! And fans who did like Breaking Dawn can respect Bella’s decision without emulating it :) And just because Bella fell into a deep and lasting state of catatonia when Edward left in New Moon, it doesn’t mean that fans interpret that as a realistic or acceptable reaction to a break up! I think it was just Stephenie Meyer trying to make a point of how much Bella loved Edward, nothing more :)
I think that’s enough feels for now >:D If anyone ever wants to discuss Twilight, I’m always game ♥
OH WAIT PLEASE ONE MORE THING. This is steadily becoming the Twilight fandom mantra, so it would be blasphemous to omit it :D Vampires don’t sparkle? Vampires. Dont. Exist.
Irina had decided to come after all.
For one moment I stared at her, and she stared back. I wondered if she would
guess immediately who I was as well. I half-raised my hand, about to wave, but
her lip twisted the tiniest bit, making her face suddenly hostile.
I heard Renesmee’s cry of victory from the forest, heard Jacob’s echoing howl,
and saw Irina’s face jerk reflexively to the sound when it echoed to her a few
seconds later. Her gaze cut slightly to the right, and I knew what she was seeing.
An enormous russet werewolf, perhaps the very one who had killed her Laurent.
How long had she been watching us? Long enough to see our affectionate
exchange before, I was sure.
Her face spasmed in pain.
Instinctually, I opened my hands in front of me in an apologetic gesture. She
turned back to me, and her lip curled back over her teeth. Her jaw unlocked as
When the faint sound reached me, she had already turned and disappeared into
I could finally understand why Edward never hit the trees when he ran – a question that had always been a mystery to me. It was a peculiar sensation, the balance between the speed and the clarity. For, while I rocketed over, under, and through the thick jade maze at a rate that should have reduced everything around me to a streaky green blur, I could plainly see each tiny leaf on all the small branches of every insignificant shrub that I passed.
LOL, you tell her, Jessica.
